- As more IT and security professionals become interested in the CISSP certification, too many vendors and training companies see an opportunity to make money on the CISSP certificaiton and its training claiming certain pass rate and certain gurantees for you to pass the CISSP exam...well, here is the bad news.. the pass rate for the CISSP certification and exam is never advertised and very few people and groups have access to this information and they can't discuss it or advertise it. So, anyone who promise you a pass rate or a pass gurantee is looking to scam you. The most gurantee you can get on training is from (ISC)² which is if you don't pass the test, you can attend the training again. If anyone is offering you gurantees to pass the test...ask for it in writing and see if they will provide.
- 7 days Accelerated Instruction bootcamps...well, how are you going to benefit from accelerated instruction? the major challange with the CISSP exam is that it covers a wide array of topics and domains in security and to understand them all take time and experience, so acceleration is not an option here..read between the lines and you will be able to tell, its a selling gemic. So, what's with the extra two days? the concept of bootcamps doesn't work with the CISSP certification for many reasons...first, no bootcamp is going to make you pass the CISSP exam unless you have the experience and knowledge to do so..so if you don't know anything about security and just have money to spend on hotels and bootcamps...you are not going to pass the test. Even if you have experience, going for a 7 days bootcamp is not going to make you any better. Any training class is as good as the instructor and the training material. Paying $4500 for a 7 days training class is insane...the first 5 days are what really matter becasue that's when you go over the domains, the extra two days are for additional practice exams and spa time which you can do on your own for less than the $1000 you are paying extra.
- Plenty of practice questions and study material..you can study and do a million practice questions and exams, but if they are old, out-dated and irrelevant to the actual CISSP exam, then they are usless. There are plenty of sites on the net that offer CISSP practice exams and study materials and so on.. the main issue here is how relevant and updated these practice questions and study materials. Sites like cccure and test king and so on offer many practice questions, but when was the last time they saw an actual CISSP exam and how updated is their questions in regard to the actual CISSP exam. Any use of outdated material and practice tests and training is a waste of time and money.. So pick your sources. There are plenty of false advertising on the net, so choose your study source carefuly.
- Sure you can attend to a CISSP training class in a community college or a training center and be one of 100 people in a class room so you can save few dollars, but do you really think you will have the same access to the instructor as if you were in a class room with 20 or 15 people? in a room of 100 students or 50 or 40...you are just that ..another number. Make sure to always ask how many people will be in the class before you sign up with any training facility.
- Many training vendors claim that their CISSP training is official and the instructors are authorized, first, define official..are they an official (ISC)² authorized training center? is the instructor certified and authorized and trained by (ISC)² as an official CISSP instructor...ask these questions and make sure you are provided an answer. Anyone can be an official anything..however, there are less than 100 trained, authorized and certified (ISC)² instructors world-wide, so make sure your instructor is one of them where you will get the most value for your money and training.
- Training and boot camps offerings from independent training organizations that use their own instructors and training material may or may not cover the same subject areas in the CISSP exam as the training provided by (ISC)². The course materials and the instructors quality and experience will not be the same as those used by (ISC)² even if the subject matter is the same.
